After a long, public development cycle – influenced by several closed beta tests – Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail developer HoYoverse will launch its latest title Zenless Zone Zero this week, on 4th July. And those looking to dive in to the urban fantasy RPG on day one will be rewarded with a whopping 100 free pulls.
Pulls, or draws, are used by the gacha system to unlock new characters and weapons. The rewards will be spread out across story progression, in-game events, and login bonuses, so you’ll need to make some progress to get them all. However, those of you who put the hours in will get 1,600 Polychromes, 70 Master Tapes, and 20 Encrypted Master Tapes. There’ll also be 80 Boopons to collect, which can be used to unlock supporting pet-like characters.

The game has expanded dramatically beyond its beta for this launch version, with new plot and expanded districts. Two new agents from the faction Sons of Calydon will debut, while the slice of life aspect has also been enhanced. You’ll be able to invite characters to hang out with you in New Eridu City, where you’ll be able to grab a coffee or some ramen.
The press release reveals: “In the global release version, players will not only be able to stroll through Sixth Street, but also freely explore a broader urban district: Lumina Square. Strolling around the city, players might find Bangboo who need help, Cargo Trucks hidden throughout the city with various rewards, and many more surprises.
“Additionally, Scott Outpost, which overlooks the massive Hollow Zero, serves as another operational base for explorers who wish to challenge themselves and defeat terrifying enemies in Hollow Zero and Shiyu Defense. To expand its services, Random Play has also opened a second floor where players can relax, play music, or customise their photo walls.”
We’ll have a lot more on Zenless Zone Zero throughout July, so stay tuned to the site for our full review and more. In the meantime, are you planning to download the free-to-play gacha and earn all these rewards? Let us know in the comments section below.

Not a gamblin' man myself.
@LikelySatan England are gambling right now
I can't wait to become a gambling addict 🤩
I’m tempted to start my first gatcha addictio-…game. BUT my internet is atrocious. I’m guessing this is an ‘always online’ game, with no offline option?
Not sure where I'll find the time but can't wait to try this one out. People get all antsy about 'gacha' but you can easily enjoy everything these games have to offer for absolutely nothing. In fact far better gaming value than what your typical full price title brings you.
They give you your first 100 free and that's how they get you hooked and wanting more.
Is this the game that in the first trailer showed an arcade where you could play mini games or was that another game?
@Hyena_socks if it's like genshin impact, should be fine even with slow download speeds. Just gotta be connected online. If you're playing by yourself, I don't think there would be any lag. I've played genshin impact on a bad internet connection and didn't lag.
@Silenos By praying on people with addictions that's the whole gimmick.
@Flaming_Kaiser "praying upon"? lol - it's not a 'gimmick' since the entire food, drink and entertainment industry is predicated on exploiting people's addictions, so what's your point exactly? you can spend £70 on a new game and get say 30 hours' entertainment out of it or, like me, you can spend nothing at all on Honkai Star Rail and get 800+ hours' fun
@Mikey856 I'll take your word for it!
@Silenos I can't stand any game begging me for money either. There's more to my disdain for gacha then strong-arm randomization.
Removed - disrespecting others
@Hyena_socks Yeah, online only I'm afraid.
@Angelus3K Yes, there are minigames in the arcade!

Animu Waifu genre of games never been my thing so even with this offer, I refuse to gamble.

Genshin Impact is my most played game the past few years so I wish I had time to dive into this and Honkai Star Rail. Just no time
I must be getting old… there are so many words in this article I literally have neither ability nor energy to understand, right from the title onward. Gacha pulls? Encrypted Master Tapes? Boopons? Slice of life aspect? Bangboo? My head hurts. 😹
“ Honkai: Star Rail developer HoYoverse “
All this time I thought the name of the company was just “Hoyo” making all of these games “Hoyoverse”. Too many superheroe movies I guess. 😁
Also, what @XanderTigerclaw said. All the currency names scared me off.😂
I, like many others, despised free to play games and Gacha and stuff like that...but Honkai really sold me. I gave the game a try and I still put down 30 minutes a day to play through the dailies and set aside a couple hours extra whenever new content releases. There can be really high quality free experiences out there that can be totally beatable without ever touching the gambling aspect of the game.
And for those complaining that the game is constantly begging for money? I guess you probably shouldn't play literally any game with microtransactions either.
I only play these games for a year, but I never spend any money. I loved Genshin, I loved HSR even more, but I'm starting to believe that Zenless Zone Zero is going to be the one I love the most. Let me pull Piper on Day One!!
@Silenos It's a well known fact that these kind of games are studied how to get people addicted. That is why they can stay alive by using whales to keep the practice alive.
@Flaming_Kaiser yes, it's well known that the entire food, drink, social media and entertainment industries in general are predicated on these same principles as you describe, what is your point exactly?
Wuthering Waves is better.
@XanderTigerclaw I had nearly the exact same reaction. Good to know it’s not just me!
